論題:"Intelligentsia and Peasantry inUkrainian National Project in the Long Nineteenth Century: the Rise ofNational Populism."
司会:篠原 琢
概要
Intelligentsia and peasantry weretraditionally seen as the two main social groups that definednineteenth-century Ukrainian national project. The interconnected formation andtransformation of the concepts of “intelligentsia” and“peasantry” in Ukraine will be
analyzed in connection with the emergenceof the specific Ukrainian version of East European peasant-orientedpopulism. The task of social emancipation and enlightenment of peasantrybecame central part of moral mission of the Ukrainianintelligentsia that viewed the
peasantry as a key social and culturalsymbol of the Ukrainian people/nation (narod). By the 1860s theUkrainian national populism (narodnytstvo/narodoliubstvo) became thedominant intellectual paradigm in the national project. It sharedmany important postulates with the Russian and also Polish varietiesof the populism, but eventually developed into a separatephenomenon.
